FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q.  Can you do the entire remodeling project?
A.  We are a full-service remodeling company and have been licensed as a Connecticut General Contractor since 1981. We can handle all phases of a remodeling project from your cabinetry and fixture selections to the complete design, as well as the electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and all of the installation work. We offer one-stop-shopping for all of the components for your kitchen or bath project, our Design Center includes a large selection of countertops, flooring, fixtures, lighting, and plumbing fixtures. Our cabinet options range from re-facing your cabinets to remodeling your entire kitchen or bath. We represent full custom inset door cabinets, semi-custom lines and “stock” cabinetry which can deliver quickly.  With all of these choices we can accommodate demanding timelines and a variety of project budgets.

Q.  How long before my remodeling project will be done?
A.  The length of time will be based on how complicated the project is, how quickly decisions can be made, the manufacturer’s lead-time, design changes, as well as unforeseen construction issues found as we open up the space.  We will break down the project into phases to better determine the time a project takes.
  1. The Design Phase is also known as the planning phase.  It is the part of the project when you are working with your designer to determine what the new space will look like.  The average time frame to complete the design phase ranges from two to four weeks.
  2. The Contract Phase is from the contract signing date until the actual construction starts.  In this phase, the materials are ordered, our team is scheduled, and the overall construction schedule is determined.  This phase will generally last from two weeks to six weeks depending on the type of materials ordered.
  3. The Construction Phase begins with demolition of the existing space and ends when the actual installation work is completed. Bathroom construction generally takes up to two weeks, kitchen projects can take up to 5 weeks. Larger remodeling project timing will depend on the complexity of the project. Your project will be substantially complete at the end of this phase and will be in usable condition.
  4. A Final “Walk” Through is our way of assuring that your project is finished. We will run through our Final Project Completion List and make sure all tasks are finalized prior to signing off the project as complete.  At this time, your new space will now be ready to enjoy.
Q.  How soon can you start my project?
A.  Once the contract is signed we’ll place your product orders and based on delivery times we’ll set a tentative project schedule. Once your entire order is in-house and staged at our Design Center we will finalized our project schedule. Our schedule is typically based on the cabinetry or plumbing order lead-times which vary greatly by vendor, you should allow 3 to 8 weeks.

Q.  I hear stories about how stressful these remodeling projects can be.  Why are they stressful?
A.  Kitchens or bathrooms are key rooms in your home that are central to your family life.  When these rooms become upset, the family becomes disrupted.  In order to help reduce stress we try to set realistic expectations about how long the project will take. We suggest you make alternative arrangements for cooking or bathing, and think about your schedules and how your family will function around the people working in your home. Let our team know about any special considerations your family may need during construction. At DreamMaker Bath and Kitchen, we understand this can be an emotional time.  We will provide you with project schedules and remain in constant communication to let you know what to expect along the way.
